Apartments for Sale in Mijas Costa

Most buyers choose an apartment here for beachside living, low maintenance, and direct access to communal pools and gardens without the upkeep of a detached villa.

The apartment stock in Mijas Costa skews heavily towards mid-rise complexes built from the late 1980s onwards, though recent years have added a handful of modern frontline projects near La Cala de Mijas. You will find two- and three-bedroom layouts the norm, many with south- or southwest-facing terraces and sea views. Penthouses and ground-floor units with gardens feature in the mix, and underground parking is standard in most developments. Older blocks closer to the N-340 tend to be smaller and simpler, while beachfront complexes offer multiple pools, tennis courts, and landscaped grounds. Community fees vary widely depending on age, facilities, and proximity to the beach. Older, smaller communities with a single pool and basic gardens charge less, while modern beachfront complexes with lifts, heated pools, and full-time concierge services command higher monthly contributions. It is essential to review the community budget and any outstanding maintenance debts before signing, as these obligations transfer with ownership. Short-term holiday rentals are permitted in many buildings, but some communities restrict letting or impose rules on rental duration, so check the statutes early in the process. Daily life centres around the beach, the marina at Fuengirola, and supermarket clusters along the coast road. Public transport is straightforward: the suburban train connects Fuengirola with Málaga airport and the city centre, and local buses run between La Cala de Mijas, Calahonda, and surrounding urbanisations. Many apartment owners manage without a car for day-to-day errands, though having one opens up the wider Costa and the hill villages behind. For healthcare, Hospital Vithas Xanit International sits a short drive inland, and British and Scandinavian residents have established a visible expatriate presence across the area. Apartments in Mijas Costa suit downsizers, lock-and-leave buyers, and anyone prioritising beach access and shared amenities over private outdoor space. Families with young children often prefer townhouses or villas with dedicated gardens, but couples and retirees find the apartment model practical for year-round or seasonal use. The appeal lies in simplicity: security, neighbours who look after the complex when you are away, and none of the garden or pool maintenance that comes with a standalone house.
