Townhouses for Sale in Canillas De Aceituno

These properties combine the character of centuries-old architecture with practical layouts suited to full-time living and extended stays in the mountains.

Townhouses in Canillas de Aceituno are typically found along the steep, narrow streets of the old quarter, where whitewashed façades and terracotta roofs line cobbled lanes. Most were built before modern planning regulations, meaning room heights, stair widths and floor levels vary property to property. Ground floors often open directly onto the street, with kitchens and living spaces on the middle level and bedrooms tucked under beamed ceilings above. Many retain original features such as stone walls, wooden lintels and hydraulic floor tiles, though interiors range from sympathetically restored to in need of significant work. Roof terraces are common and offer views across the village or south toward the distant Mediterranean. The village sits inland from the coast, around 40 minutes by car from Torre del Mar and Caleta de Vélez. Canillas de Aceituno itself has a health centre, primary school, bakery, small supermarket and a handful of bars and restaurants. Larger shopping, international schools and the nearest hospital are in Vélez-Málaga. The setting attracts walkers and those drawn to mountain life, with trails leading into the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama natural park. The altitude keeps summer temperatures slightly cooler than the coast, though winter evenings can be cold. Buyers choosing a townhouse here tend to value authenticity and community over modern convenience. The layout suits those comfortable with stairs and the practicalities of older buildings, including potential for damp in ground-floor rooms and the need for ongoing maintenance. Parking is almost always on the street, often a short walk from the front door, and access for larger vehicles can be tight. Those looking for golf courses, marinas or international dining will find the village limited. Families seeking year-round schooling in English, retirees wanting flat, accessible homes, or buyers prioritising proximity to airports and beaches often find better matches closer to the coast or in larger towns.
